2022 Volvo XC60
Complaints about this year name backup far more often than the other years of this generation — 17% of them, about 43× the usual rate of 0.4%.
Generation 2 of the Volvo XC60, which began in 2018. Everything below compares this year against the others in that generation, not against a different car wearing the same name.
| Complaints filed | 207 |
|---|---|
| Median for this model | 46 |
| Involving a crash | 9 |
| Recalls | 6 |
| EPA combined | 24 mpg |
What the complaints were about
- radio — 8.7% of this year's complaints, against 0% across the other years of this generation (43.5×).
- reset — 20.3% of this year's complaints, against 5.9% across the other years of this generation (3.4×). Owners wrote it as: reset, updates, attempts, whole.
- alert — 7.2% of this year's complaints, against 0% across the other years of this generation (36.2×).
Words owners used for the same problem are counted together, so a fault written four different ways is measured once. Grouped by which complaints they appear in, not by a list anyone wrote in advance.
Also unusual this year
- battery — 14% of complaints, 36× usual
- software — 32% of complaints, 4× usual
- camera — 26% of complaints, 5× usual
What owners wrote
My backup camera operates intermittently, even after a recall was performed updating some software.
Even after the Volvo R10320 - WAM Upgrade recall, the backup camera is STILL unavailable at times when reversing. The recall and software update did not fix the issue. I would start the car and begin to reverse and met with "Camera is temporarily unavailable".…

How this was worked out
Every year of the Volvo XC60 was compared against its own history rather than against other cars, which removes popularity and age from the answer — a common car draws more complaints at equal reliability, and an older one has had longer to accumulate them. A year is flagged when it drew at least 2.5× this model's median and at least 50 complaints.
This is a fault record, not a review. Nobody files a federal complaint to say the car was fine, so it shows what tends to go wrong — not whether owners liked it, and not whether it is a good car.
